After a long pause in our schedule of new releases, we are finally ready to share with you some new music from Vira.

Our third one comes out as a single named “Testament”, conceived by London’s own King SlaFF, a producer and DJ whose recordings have been previously edited by Echodub, and with whom we had a chance to to share a dj session last year, here, in Mexico City.

Testament is a minimal dubstep track, whose ambient attributes cause it to flow naturally after “Vapor”, our first release. We keep on inviting mexican producers to remix the original. This time the turn goes for Mock The Zuma -a rising talent from Ciudad Juarez-, Mekha -Vira’s old time collaborator-, and the man behind “Bit Pairat”: Kupa.

All tracks are being remastered by Twerk, an electronic music legend of his own league whose work has been published on seminal labels such as Mille Pleateaux and who has recently worked on the engineering of records by Eskmo, Amon Tobin and Merzbow.

Ha pasado mucho tiempo sin que lancemos nuevo material en vira, pero después de algunos meses tenemos listo el promo de nuestro próximo lanzamiento.

El tercer lanzamiento de Vira lleva por nombre Testament,  sencillo de King SlaFF, productor y dj de Londres, artista editado por el sello echodub y con quien tuvimos el gusto de compartir una sesión de djs el año pasado.

Testament es un tema de dubstep mininal y ambiental que continúa la línea de nuestro primer lanzamiento “Vapor”.

De la misma manera que en nuestro primer lanzamiento, el tema fue remixeado por productores mexicanos como el joven de Ciudad Juárez, Mock The Zuma; Mekha, un colaborador previo de vira y el autor de “Bit Pairat”, Kupa.

El material está siendo masterizado por Twerk, viejo lobo de mar de la producción electrónica quien editó en sellos como Mille Plateux. Recientemente ha post-producido el material de artistas como Eskmo, Amon Tobin y Merzbow.

Darkstar is coming to Mexico City and they are playing live next friday. We got the chance to ask some questions to one member of the band:

1.-How did Darkstar begin? Why the name Darkstar?

It began in North West London, we were making tracks and saving them as ‘darkstar beats’ the name darkstar came from the Jon Carpenter film.

2.-From “Need You” to “North” you can hear the change from dubstep to pop, what are your thoughts on that?

I wouldn’t call it pop or ‘need you’ dubstep. My thoughts are that most artists look for something to aspire to. We wanted to carry on developing and making records we thought were advancing.

3.-What does your live act consist of?

Aiden on a synthersizer, James on vocals/synth and me on a drum machine.

4.-What is your creative process like, which software and hardware do you use when producing and how many tracks per year do you make?

We use anything from Logic to Pro-tools, and I can’t really say how many tracks per year we write, its impossible to answer.

5.-Which were your influences?

Micheal Jackson, Daft Punk, Joy Division, Radiohead, Talking Heads, Digital Mystikz.

6.-What music do you listen to now?

I like the Oddfuture stuff, particularly Tyler and Frank Ocean.

7.-How do you see “dubstep” from its beginning to today, being Darkstar a band who has changed its sound constantly.

I’m a little out of touch with it, but was with Skream in Amsterdam last weekend and it looks like it’s going from strength to strength. At the beginning it was is a different vibe. It was more about a community of people in ‘plastic people’ now its global.

8.-Lastly, any new projects you’d like to recommend?

Kode 9′s new album ‘Black Sun’

Aprovechando que viene Darkstar a presentarse en México el próximo viernes 11 de Marzo, tuvimos la oportunidad de hacerle unas preguntas a uno de los integrantes de la banda:

1.- ¿Como empezó darkstar? ¿Y por qué Darkstar?

Empezó en el noroeste de Londres, estábamos haciendo tracks y salvándolos como “Darkstar Beats”. El nombre Darkstar viene de la película de Jon Carpenter.

2.-De Need You a North se escucha el cambio de Dubstep a synth pop. ¿Que piensan al
respecto?

No lo llamaría pop o “Need You” dubstep. Mis pensamientos son que la mayoría de los artistas están buscando algo a lo que aspiran. Nosotros queríamos seguir desarrollándonos y haciendo discos que pensábamos que se adelantaran.

3.-¿En que consiste su acto en vivo?

Aiden en un sintetizador, james en las vocales y sintetizador y yo en una caja de ritmos.

4.-¿Como es es su proceso creativo, que software y hardware usan al producir y cuantos tracks por año hacen?

Usamos todo desde Logic hasta Pro-Tools y no podría decir realmente cuantos tracks por año producimos, es imposible de contestar.

5.-¿Cuáles fueron sus influencias?

Michael Jackson, Daft Punk, Joy Division, Radiohead, Talking Heads, Digital Mystikz.

6.-¿Que música escuchan ahora?

Me gusta el material de Oddfuture, particularmente Tyler y Frank Ocean.

7.-¿Como ven el “dubstep” desde sus inicios hasta hoy?siendo Darkstar una banda que ha cambiado su sonido constantemente.

Estoy un poco alejado del dubstep, pero estuve con Skream en Amsterdam el fin de semana pasado y parece que está tomando muchando fuerza. Al principio era una vibra diferente. Era mas  una comunidad de personas en el “plastic people”, ahora es global.

8.-Y por último, nuevos proyectos que nos quieran recomendar?
